Senior Director of Finance

The Service Collaborative of Western New York (TSC), a regional agency improving the lives of those in need, and those with the desire to make a difference through volunteerism, is seeking a Senior Director of Finance. TSC oversees several national service programs in Western New York annually. They serve more than 25,000 individuals and families in the region as a result of its numerous community programs. The programs of The Service Collaborative focus on four straight-forward areas that make an impact every day: Education, Economic Opportunity, Youth Development, and Volunteering. They also offer opportunities to participate in agency committees, including Diversity/Equity/Inclusion, Fund Development, Community Engagement, Professional Development, Marketing/Communications, and Facilities.

The Senior Director of Finance will implement the infrastructure and systems needed to ensure that the organization maintains sufficient financial and accounting knowledge so agency resources are used to their best and highest end without unreasonable exposure to risk. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Director of Finance will be responsible for general bookkeeping oversight, activities and practices, and participates in the review and appraisal of financial procedures and records. As a member of the senior management team, the Director will be involved in a range of strategic planning, and leading the team to strengthen the financial position of the agency. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director and the senior leadership team in developing organizational and department budgets and spending plans, and overseeing local, state, and federal grant financials. Additionally, the Director will act as the primary liaison to the board of directors’ and Program+ for all finance/accounting matters. The Director will continually evaluate best industry practices in comparison to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward both future needs and budget realities.

The ideal candidate must be analytical and possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills, along with strong business/financial acumen. Additional required competencies include detail orientation, accountability, performance focus, presentation skills, numerical accuracy, planning, decision making skills, delegation, follow through, informing others, and reliability and consistency. The Senior Director of Finance will be a team player and share the agency’s vision of refusing to accept the barriers that limit potential and resolving to overcome them.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in accounting/financial management are both required (non-profit experience is highly preferred). Also required is QuickBooks (desktop and online) expertise, working knowledge of governmental (local/state/federal) and non-governmental contract guidelines and advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills.
