Executive Director

The Kenan Center, one of the premier non-profit facilities in the Buffalo Niagara region for arts, education, and recreation programming, is seeking an Executive Director. Visitors from all over the world enjoy walking the Kenan Center campus, located in historic Lockport, NY, to see the 1800’s Victorian mansion and the beautifully landscaped grounds. Since its official dedication in 1969, The Kenan Center has grown from a community center to become a 25-acre facility featuring the Kenan House, Taylor Theater, Education Building, Kenan Arena and Kenan Gardens. The Executive Director will oversee a budget approaching $1.4 million and all areas of the organization, including staff and board development, fundraising, program management, outreach and advocacy, and nonprofit business operations. The Executive Director will also work closely with the Board on the capital campaign to build a new state of the art Civic Arena. The successful candidate will become a part of a supportive and dedicated community comprised of a Board of Governors, 15 staff members, nearly 300 volunteers, and numerous other supporters spanning various professional fields and backgrounds.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with a Board of community leaders, the ability to see the big picture, and act as a catalyst for action and change. Required competencies include: basic leadership orientation, business acumen, strategic thinking, presentation skills, motivation of others, hiring and staffing, diplomacy, and decision-making skills. The successful candidate will be a strong leader and be committed to the mission and vision of the Institution. That mission is to connect Kenan to the public and the public to Kenan by identifying community needs, supporting change needed to meet those needs, and creating a safe learning environment for people of all ages with quality experiences and programs.

A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience managing or serving as a key member of a small-medium size non-profit organization is required.
