Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western New York (RMHC of WNY), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to keeping families with sick/injured children together and near the care and resources they need, is seeking a Director of Development. The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director to strengthen the culture of giving and support for RMHC of WNY. The Director will play a key role in the design, execution, and supervision of the charity’s overall development strategy which will align with the strategic plan and stated mission. This includes engagement with corporations, foundations, major donors, legacy donors, appeals, and online and targeted mailings. The successful candidate will manage, evaluate, and expand the donor portfolio and increase the organization’s revenue through cultivation, stewardship, signature events, and peer to peer programs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Create, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive, multi-year plan to increase donors and dollars in support of RMHC of WNY including all solicitation vehicles, segmentation, timing, messages, and goals.
• Implement this program with the help and support of the entire staff, board, and committees.
• Nurture and explore the expansion of established current relationships with foundations, corporate entities, and individual donors.
• Research foundations and corporations whose mission aligns with RMHC of WNY and develop both a relationship and successful proposals.
• Coordinate with marketing to create a vibrant giving plan for all stakeholders including all communications such as newsletters, social media, and email communications.
• Work with the Database Administrator to review the database to achieve accuracy, consistency of input recording and timely donor acknowledgements.
• Oversee the development and execution of a donor stewardship plan, ensuring an appropriate level of frequency of impactful and meaningful stewardship for donors at all levels of giving.
• Work with Executive Director to develop an annual budget, including setting realistic income targets and managing expenditures within budget constraints.
• Act as a strategic spokesperson for RMHC of WNY for the purposes of mission awareness and cultivation. Audiences to include board members, donor prospects, business groups and volunteers.

The ideal candidate will have proven expertise developing and managing relationships with donors, and demonstrated compassion and an empathetic approach to the population that they serve. Required competencies include: business acumen, strong verbal and written communication skills, customer service orientation, ambition, follow through, diplomacy, listening, self-confidence, presentation skills, and basic leadership orientation. The Director of Development must be a team player and demonstrate a passion for the agency’s mission to create and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families. A Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in non-profit development is required. Advanced computer skills (MS office suite and donor tracking software) and a valid Driver’s License are also required. To protect the health and safety of their employees, volunteers, and guests, all employees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and have a COVID-19 booster shot regardless of their position.
